About

Hi, I’m a Chinese/Taiwanese artist who grew up in America with both Eastern and Western cultures. I never quite fit in, and painting has been a way to find myself. Every day as I practice, I learn more about my own tendencies and eventually how to turn my flaws into flourishes.

I first learned watercolors in the Western tradition but what feels most natural to me is spontaneous painting in the Chinese brush painting style (no pencil sketching or structured planning). It’s like performing a song from memory. You’re no longer concerned about reading the sheet music, and the art just flows from the heart. My style has slowly evolved in this direction and is a mix of both worlds.

A friend once said the best photos of people are the candid, first shots of someone’s expression. I used to disagree and favor the polished versions that are done in the studio. I now see how fresh and lively my creations are when inspiration first hits.

There are several accomplished artists and masters who have inspired me to take this journey. They include Karl Martens, Ou Hao Nian, Chao Shao Ang, Oliver Pyle, Andrew Pitt, Ilya Ilbraev, Misulbu, Wayne Jiang, and Ms. Akie Karahashi, Thank you to those who have personally taught me.
